Granny Smith-Green Chili Salsa
Apples are often paired with green chiles to create a tart
and hot combination. This salsa perks up tacos, grilled pork, or nachos.
- 2 large tomatillos (about 4 ounces)
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 cup Tree Top Fresh Apple Slices or Chunks (green skin; chopped)
- 4 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped roasted Anaheim Chiles
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- 1/16 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
Step 1: Discard husks and stems of tomatillos and cut into quarters.
Heat olive oil and sauté tomatillos until slightly browned and soft.
Step 2: Place tomatillos in a blender, process until smooth.
Combine tomatillo puree, apples, and remaining ingredients and refrigerate
for 2 hours to allow flavors to blend. Red apples may be substituted
for green apples.
Yield: 2 cups (serving size 1/3 cup).
